What to expect: This hike is an easy walk down the abandoned Pali Highway (Old Pali Road). Along the highway you are rewarded with spectacular views of Kaneohe, the ko'olau mountains and several waterfalls. To access the Abandoned highway, begin at the Pali lookout and walk towards the viewing area; Continue down to the right side, and around the gate (This is closed so hike at your own risk). Once around the gate, follow the the paved road, about fifteen minutes in the turn for Pali Twin Falls will be on your right hand side.
The old Pali Road is overgrown with lush vegetation and is said to be haunted (by the infamous Night Marchers)! If you continue down it, you will pass under Highway 61 and will eventually see the trailhead for Likeke Falls!
You can also hike up the old Pali road from the bottom if you start at Ko'olau Golf Club. Starting here makes for a much easier/shorter hike to Likeke Falls, but you will miss the great views of East Oahu and its beautiful ridge lines.
History: In 1795 the last battle between the Oahu and Kamehameha forces for control of the island was fought here.
